LSRS Membership Information
Quarterly Membership Application Deadlines:
March 5, 2025 June 5, 2025 September 5, 2025 December 5, 2025
Membership Criteria
Physician Member:
- Demonstrated interest in the lumbar spine. 
- Clinical Specialists (MD/DO) in active practice; Orthopedic Surgery and Neurological Surgery. 
- Two letters of recommendation from members of the Lumbar Spine Research Society. 
- Obtain Board Certification within 6 years of membership in the society and maintain Board Certification or be actively enrolled in Maintenance of Certification. 
- Attend annual meeting at least once every three years. 
Scientific Member:
- Demonstrated interest in the lumbar spine. 
- Advanced degree (Non MD and DO) for clinical and nonclinical specialists 
- Two letters of recommendation from members of the Lumbar Spine Research Society. 
- Submit a scientific paper for presentation at a scientific seminar of the society at least once every 3 years. 
- Attend annual meeting at least once every three years. 
- Available to physicians in the US and Canada. 
Corresponding Member:
- Demonstrated interest in the lumbar spine. 
- Available to physicians outside of the United States and Canada. 
- Clinical Specialists (MD/DO) in active practice; Orthopedic Surgery and Neurological Surgery. 
- Two letters of recommendation from members of the Lumbar Spine Research Society. 
- Obtain Board Certification (US) or advanced certificate demonstrating a physicians’ exceptional expertise in a particular specialty or subspecialty of medical practice within 6 years of membership in the society. 
- Ineligible to vote or hold office. 
Resident and Fellow Member:
- Demonstrated interest in the lumbar spine. 
- Active members in an orthopedic surgery, neurological surgery, and/or spine surgery training program and in good standing. 
- Two letters of recommendation from members of the Lumbar Spine Research Society. 
- Ineligible to vote or hold office. 
- Once the resident/fellow member becomes board eligible, they will be eligible for approval as an active member without an additional application. 
- Available to physicians in the US. 
Emeritus Member Criteria:
- Age 65 or above, or retired status. 
- Eligible to vote, ineligible to hold office 
- Must pay meeting expenses, if attending, at a pro rata basis. 
- Available to physicians in the US and Canada. 
Membership Dues:
Physician Member* $850/yr
Physician Member 1st year in practice* $650/yr
Scientific Member* $450/yr
Corresponding Member* $375/yr
Resident/Fellow Member** N/A
Emeritus Member** N/A
*Membership Dues Include Meeting Registration fees for Physician, Scientific, and Corresponding Members
**not required to pay yearly dues, if they choose to attend the annual meeting or instructional course they will pay a minimal registration fee
